Office and Committee Descriptions

MDHA BOARD OF TRUSTEES (BOT)
MDHA is successful because the BOT is a group of dedicated volunteers who care about enhancing, promoting, and protecting the profession of Dental Hygiene.  This is a brief description of the offices and committees.  Please find an area that interests you and volunteer.  The committees all consist of minimally a chair but can have co-chair and committee members.
The BOT has four required meetings per year.  Two of the meetings are the same time as CEs, Spring CE and Annual Session, and then we meet usually in January and in the fall for the Planning Retreat.  

ELECTED OFFICERS
These positions are elected at the MDHA Annual Business Meeting by the membership.  These are all one year terms except Treasurer which a two year term.

MDHA PRESIDENT  –  The President shall be the principal elected officer of the Association and shall, in general, supervise all of the business affairs of the Association, subject to the direction and control of the Board of Trustees, by communicating with the Board of Trustees as necessary regarding the business of the Association. The President shall, in general, perform all duties customarily incident to the office of President and such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Trustees. The President shall succeed to the office of Immediate Past President upon expiration of the President’s term of office.

PRESIDENT-ELECT – The President-Elect shall assist the President and shall substitute for the President when required. The President-Elect shall, in general, perform all duties customarily incident to the office of President-Elect and such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Trustees.  The President-Elect shall succeed to the office of President upon expiration of the President’s term of office, and in the event of the inability of the President to fulfill the duties.

PAST-PRESIDENT –  The Immediate Past President shall have such duties as may be assigned by the President or the Board of Trustees.

SECRETARY – The Secretary shall be the recording officer of the Association.

TREASURER – The Treasurer shall be the principal financial officer of the Association and shall have charge of and be responsible for the maintenance of adequate books of account for the Association; shall have charge and custody of all funds and securities of the Association, and be responsible therefore, and for the receipt and disbursement thereof; shall deposit all funds and securities of the Association in such banks, trust companies or other depositories as shall be selected in accordance with the provisions of these Bylaws.

DELEGATES – The Delegate is the MDHA representative at the ADHA Annual Session.  The delegates will have voting privileges.

ALTERNATE DELEGATES – The Alternate Delegate will attend the ADHA Annual Session.  There are no voting privileges at that meeting.

STANDING COMMITTEES  – Appointed by the President
ANNUAL SESSION  – The Annual Session Chair works with a local committee and the  Executive Administrator to plan the Annual Meeting including hiring speakers, hotel, and food arrangements.

BOD LIAISON  – The Board of Dentistry Liaison attends the BOD meetings as the liaison between  MDHA and  BOD.

MEMBERSHIP  – The membership chair maintains the membership roster for MDHA.  Assists members and non member with member information.

LEGISLATIVE  – The Legislative Chair monitors the legislative activity.

PUBLIC RELATIONS  –  The Public Health Chair works on projects and provides news releases promoting public health.

HISTORIAN  – The Historian records the year in photos, presenting a year end “slide show” at Annual Session.

SPRING CE  – The Spring CE Chair works with the  Executive Administrator to plan the Spring Meeting including hiring speakers, hotel, and food arrangements.

SMADHA LIASION  – The Student Member American Dental Hygienists’ Association Liaison Chair is the liaison between MDHA and the student members at Great Falls College MSU.

PUBLIC HEALTH  – The Public Health Chair works on Geriatric and various public health projects

LAP LIAISON – The LAP (Limited Access Permit) Liaison assists and connects LAPs across Montana. 

COMPONENT TRUSTEES – Elected by the local components to be the liaison between the local group and MDHA.  Most components take turns hosting the MDHA Annual Meeting.  The components are:  Billings,  Butte, Helena, Bozeman, Kalispell, Missoula, and Great Falls.

EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATOR  – The Executive Administrator, an independent paid contractor, handles the administrative and day-to-day operation of the Association, and such duties as the Board may assign. The Executive Administrator shall be expected to attend and participate in all meetings of the Association’s Board of Trustees, but is a non-voting member.
